rolled candles

Beeswax candles are so gorgeously sweet, I prefer them to all other candles. Of course, everyone always did prefer them to a tallow candle, but while contemporary cheap candles won’t make your home smell like a deep-fryer, they aren’t intoxicatingly beautiful and healthy, as beeswax is, either. I hope one day to have bees in a handmade hive and enjoy their honey, wax, and the health of our garden. The children and I rolled candles using sheets of beeswax, to celebrate the autumn equinox..

Warm the wax a little first (safely!), pinch it well round the wick before rolling, and all will go smoothly. Warm that last edge a little more too, to secure it. Clip the wick to ¼” to make your candle last longer and reduce soot, before (safely) burning. I hope you’ve had a lovely equinox! We’ll light these tonight, when the late September evening rolls in.
